At the invitation of  Prof. Guofeng Song, Prof. Shigehisa Arai of Tokyo Institute of Technology visited the Institute of Semiconductors for academic exchange on Aug. 12^th, 2019. He made an interesting report entitled “GaInAsP/InP Long-wavelength Lasers for In-plane Photonic Integrated Circuits”.

Prof. Shigehisa Arai introduces conventional photonic integrated devices, including dynamic-single-mode and wavelength-tunable semiconductor lasers, semiconductor optical amplifiers, and optical switches/modulators. In his report, Prof. Shigehisa reviews the properties of the low-damage and cost-effective processing technologies of ultrafine structures for high-performance lasers and photonic integrated circuits on silicon platforms. Prof. Shigehisa Arai’s report arose a great interest among the participants from the Institute, and they, together with Prof. Shigehisa Arai, had a lively exchange and further discussion.

In addition, Prof. Guofeng Song, Yun Xu, Yongzhen Huang attended the forum and thanked Prof. Shigehisa Arai. After this visit, the conventional photonic integrated research between the Institute of Semiconductors and Tokyo Institute of Technology will further be enhanced.
