Title: From [cm→nm], from [fs→DC]: a peculiar research path for a junior investigator in Taiwan with limited resources

Abstract: Science and technology have immerged into a multi-dimensional, interdisciplinary fashion. In this talk, I intend to describe my academic path starting as an ultrafast optical researcher, and somehow evolved into new fields, taking the privilege of the faculty position. I'd like share some results covering a vast range in terms of spatial and temporal regimes. These include optical arbitrary waveform generations for millimeter-wave photonics, nonlinear optics in fibers, and plasmonic vortices.

Biography:Chen-Bin Huang (黃承彬) received his B.S. degree from National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, China in 1997, and his Ph.D. degree from Purdue University, USA, in 2008. He has worked at Bell Laboratories (Murray Hill). He joined the Institute of Photonics Technologies at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, China as assistant professor in 2008 and was promoted to associate professor in 2012. He has worked as visiting scientist at the Department of Physics, University of Bayreuth, Germany in 2014, Physics Institute, University of Würzburg, Germany in 2011, and the Materials Research Institute at Northwestern University, Illinois, USA in 2002. His current research interests include plasmonics and ultrafastoptics.

Prof. Huang is a recipient of the 2016 Academia Sinica Research Award for Junior Investigators, the 13th Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Paper Award from Far Eastern Y. Z. Hsu Science and Technology Memorial Foundation in 2015, the Teaching Excellence Award from National Tsing Hua University in 2014, the Junior Faculty Research Award from National Tsing Hua University in 2012, the Personal Distinguished Research Achievement Award by ITRI in 2002.
