Venue:No. 101 Meeting Room, IOS, CAS

Abstract: As the network traffic continues to increase, high capacity, energy efficient and flexible optical network will be required. In this presentation, firstly technical issues and requirements of optical network in near future will be explained. After that I will introduce our activities on flexible optical network.

    Outline:

1.Internet traffic and power consumption of network

    2.Requirement for optical network

    3.High capacity optical transmission technologies

4.Flexible, energy efficient optical network technologies

    5.Summary

Biography:Akio Tajima received B.E. and M.E. degrees in electrical engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan, in 1990 and 1992, respectively. In 1992, he joined NEC Corporation, Kawasaki, Japan. His research topics include optical networking, quantum cryptosystem and optical access systems. Since 2009, he has been working on dynamic optical networks. He is currently a principal researcher with NEC’s Green Platform Research Laboratories. Mr. Tajima is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a senior member of the Institute of Electronics, Information, and Communication Engineers (IEICE), Japan.
