Abstract:The great micro photonics has been forming a promising new branch of communication and information technology that complements microelectronics. Thereby, one may expect advances in micro-photonic circuits similar to the advances made in microelectronics, including compact layout design, no-bending-loss-turning, multiple logic/processing functions and mature state-of-the-art in manufacturing. So, photonic wires and logic units/technology are two unavoidable steps to the development of photonic processing chips or systems. The continuous demand for broadband
services in the access segment of optical networks requires the hybrid integration of subsystems implemented on one chip as much function as possible. The two most popular integrated systems - Re-configurable Optical Add/Drop Module (ROADM) and optical cross-connect (OXC) have created a new agile construction with much smaller footprint size and low cost on one-chip. As a result, silicon-on-insulator (SOI) waveguides and devices have shown merits, among which corner-mirror is a basic element. In this talk, totally there are two parts: (i) analysis for the motivation for the corner-mirror structure of SOI waveguides; (ii) modeling and simulation for the waveguide corner-mirror structure.
