At the invitation of Prof Wang Zhanguo, CAS academician, Prof. Wang Zhong-Lin from School of Materials Science and Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology in USA, and  Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited the Institute of Semiconductors for academic exchange on Sep.18th, 2013. He made an academic report entitled “Nanogenerators as new energy technology and piezotronics for functional systems” at Huang Kun Academic Forum.

Prof. Wang Zhong-Lin introduced his interesting investigations on nanogenerators  based on piezoelectric, triboelectric and pyroelectric effect. The output of the nanogenerators nowadays is high enough to drive a wireless sensor system and charge a battery of a cell phone. Nanogenerators are becoming a vital technology for sustainable, independent and maintenance-free operation of micro/nano-systems and mobile/portable electronics. Prof. Wang cited many examples to introduce the applications of the nanogenerators. His research also focused on the fundamental science and novel applications of piezotronics in sensors, touch-pad technology, functional devices and energy science.

The forum was emceed by Prof. Yang Fuhua. Prof. Chen Hongda, deputy director of Institute of Semiconductors, attended the Forum and issued a souvenir to Prof. Wang Zhong-Lin on behalf of our Institute. Many researchers and postgraduate students of the Institute participated in the forum and made further discussions with Prof. Wang.
