At the invitation of Prof Zhanguo Wang, CAS academician, Dr Ziyang Zhang from EPSRC National centre for III-V Technologies in UK visited the Key Laboratory of Semiconductor Materials Sciencs for academic exchange on July 16, 2013.

During his visit in the Laboratory，Dr Zhang made a academic report entitled “The application of quantum dot materials and devices for bio-medical imaging and optics communications”. In this report, in addition to briefly introducing the potential applications of InGaAs/GaAs(001) quantum dot materials and devices in optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optics communications，Dr Zhang reported his interesting investigation on the broadband emitting quantum dot materials and superluminescent diodes, high-quality 1.55mm In(Ga)As/GaAs quantum dot materials and saturable absorption devices, as well as their applications to mode-locked laser devices. Dr Zhang’s report arose a great interest among the participants from the Institute, and they, together with Dr Zhang, had a lively exchange and discussion on the relevant technical and application issues.
