The National Science and Technology Awards Conference was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on January 10, 2014. Leaders of the CPC and the state Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, Liu Yunshan and Zhang Gaoli attended the conference and presented certificates to representatives of the award winners.
State Preeminent Science and Technology Award, State Natural Sciences Award, State Technology Invention Award, State Science and Technology Progress Award, and International Science and Technology Cooperation Award were conferred at the conference.
Academician Zhang Cunhao and Academician Cheng Kaijia won the 2013 State Preeminent Science and Technology Award. There were 1 first prize and 53 second prizes of State Natural Sciences Award; 2 first prizes and 69 second prizes of State Technology Invention Award; 3 grand prizes, 24 first prizes and 161 second prizes of State Science and Technology Progress Award. Eight foreign scientists won International Science and Technology Cooperation Award.
The achievement of “The Technology of Fabrication, Test, Coupling and Package of High Speed Laser” undertaken by the research group of Professor Zhu Ninghua of ISCAS won the second class prize of 2013 State Technological Invention Award. The winners are as follows: Zhu Ninghua, Yu Xianghong, Zhu Hongliang, Xie Liang and Huang Xiaodong.
Using independent intellectual property rights, they develope a series of lasers and modules, such as 2.5 Gb/s, 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s digital light emitting modules, implement corresponding industrial standards, and realize mass production, providing mature products for main communication providers, including Huawei, ZTE and Lucent.
The achievement encourages the scientists of ISCAS to contribute more to the development of China.
