Nov. 21st 2011, Professor C. I. M. Beenakker, Director of DIMES of Delft University of Technology (TUD) and Professor Guoqi Zhang, Director of Solid State Lighting (SSL) Research Centre of TUD were invited as Honorary Professor of the Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IoS) for their contributions to the development of SSL and Sino-Netherlands academic cooperation.　　　

Professor Jinmin Li, Director of the Institute of Semiconductors, CAS, Ms Ling Wu, General Secretary of China SSL Alliance (CSA), Professor Hongda Chen, Deputy Director of IoS, Professor Rob Fastenau, Dean of Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer  Science of TUD, Mr Jan Reint Smit, Counsellor of Science and Technology from the Dutch embassy in China, together with hundreds of representatives and guests from Sino-Netherlandss industries and academia witnessed the ceremony.

Professor Beenakker and Professor Zhang have solid background and great influence in academia and industry, especially in the area of SSL 3D packaging. From their aspect of view, SSL is a global and emerging industry. The cooperation between TUD and IoS would be a great enhancement and boost to the development of SSL. Therefore, the two Professors will maintain and expand the academic cooperation and exchange between China and the Netherlands.

As a part of the cooperation, TUD Beijing Research Centre (TUD-BRC) has been established in the campus of IoS. Both sides held the opening ceremony of TUD-BRC together. Afterwards, academic presentations were given by research staffs and PhD students from both sides. At the end of the session, a quiz with regard to the basic information of China and the Netherlands was held. Professor Jinmin Li and Professor Fastenau were invited to serve as the referees. Professor Junxi Wang, Deputy Director of Solid State Lighting R&D Centre, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor Beenakker hosted the quiz session.
