Institute of Semiconductors under Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOS，CAS) signed an agreement on the co-building of Institute of Semiconductor Lighting Industry Technology (ISLIT) and Hongwei-Zhongke Semiconductor Co., Ltd. of Guangdong on September 30, 2010.

The agreement was designed to promote R&D on frontier technologies of Lighting Emitting Diode (LED) and provide a platform for innovative research on it and Metal-organic Chemical Vapor DePosition (MOCVD), based on the joint efforts of IOS, Guangdong Science and Technology Department, Institute of Industry Technology of Guangdong, and China Solid State Lighting Alliance.

ISLIT aims to address the key issues in LED industry and provide S&T support and human resources for LED industrial clusters of Guangdong province. With about 200 million yuan invested in its prophase work, the institute is expected to promote a fast, stable and benign development of LED industry in Guangdong and the whole country.

Hongwei-Zhongke Semiconductor Co., Ltd. of Guangdong,on the other hand, will focus on the marketing of new programs including MOCVD programs to facilitate the technology transfer of ISLIT.

IOS distinguishes itself in such fields as semiconductor materials and devices, LED lighting, and especially MOCVD packages and epitaxial growth technologies.
