hspace=0 NeedDownload=The world first WLAN IEEE802.11a/b/g + DVB-H RF chip has been developed recently at the Suzhou-based CAS Semiconductor Integration Research and Development Center, a spin-off of the CAS Institute of Semiconductors.

As a wireless local area network device, it is capable of operating between 2.4 and 5.825GHz multi-mode frequency bands. In addition, it supports DVB-H high definition digital mobile TV and the existing analog TV as well. The multi-functional chip is power saving, with the nearly same power consumption as a single-functional one. It is developed independently by CAS researchers and has filed for invention patents. It is the first of its kind in the world, marking China's technology for high-end radio frequency (RF) chips is at the cutting edge of research in the field.

With the support of the CAS Knowledge Innovation Program, researchers from the CAS Institute of Semiconductors started their work on the WLAN chips in May 2004. One year later, they made a breakthrough progress in the research and development of direct digital frequency synthesizer (DDS) chips with synthesized clock frequency up to 2GHz, doubling the speed of similar products in the world at that time. In August 2006, they developed the first WLAN IEEE802.11a chip.> />
